Copyright letter

As we have to seek permission from the copyrightholder of the track Jordan has written to the holder explaining that we would like to use the track and what we intend to do with it.

Dear Copyright Holder,
I am an A level student and I am writing to request your permission to use one track from the forthcoming album by Delphic entitled Acolyte.
The track I wish to use is Doubt, track 2 on the album.
With your permission, this track would be used in my current A-level Media Studies project which involves creating a music video for a popular music track, as well as producing an album and a magazine advert for the artist.
If I received your permission, this track would ONLY be used in an educational
context and be viewed by my media class, my teacher and the OCR exam board
moderator. It would NOT be released to a large audience or uploaded to any public video websites. We do realise that the requested track is currently unreleased and will be merely used for research purposes until the release date.
The artist and your company would of course be fully recognised throughout pre-
production and the final video itself. A copyright notice, with wording supplied by you can be included in the records of the project. If this is required, please send full details.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Jordan Saville

Target Audience: research

Key Stats:
Male 76%
Female 24%
median age 23
Students 34%

From looking at the stats

Delphic are a manchester based Indie/Electro band, they are a relatively new band to the scene that have just recently came third in BBC sound of 2010 poll. They are not, they say, "a bog standard indie band of the sort that was in plentiful supply when they formed in 2007" or "one of the many electro acts that caused dance music to lose its soul and are definitely not one of those groups still desperately clinging to the Madchester glory days." They have frequently been featured in the prestigious music magazine NME as a favourite new band, for example I first noticed them in the Radar section of the magazine. Therefore I have taken some of the facts to relate to our target audience for this video> The median age is 23 and I would predict that our target audience would consist of 16-25 year old, specifically due to the genre of the music and the more adult theme of the video, also due to the fact that the band are quite young themselves, the music is quite electro and progressive, aimed at the younger audience.

When looking at the audience with regards to the music magazine we can see from their stats that the age range is mainly from 16- 24 predominately male. The is the target audience and the main readership of the magazine and from other audience research the most likely demographic group to follow and take an interest in new up and coming 'indie' bands. The fact of the age range often means that there is some disposable income to be able to be spent on CDS and gigs and the fact is this isn't yet needed for other areas. Also the culture surrounding this age range and the 'student' lifestyle often falls into this music genre. The music the styling and the image of Delphic will fit well with the genre NME and other indie music magazine follow and promote.

Lyrics and song structure

Above is the lyrics for doubt which we all went through line by line to help create uor story and develop deeper into really creating a suitable video. By setting i out like this it allowed us to have a clear view of the story, and we could elaborate on how we wanted to develop it.
At the beginning in the first lines of the songs, we wanted to create a sense of loneliness for the main character, with a few shots showing him alone even in a crowded place.
Our character for the majority of the lyrics will be lip syncing the words throughout the song. This will hopefully seem that it is his story to tell and the 'Doubt' that Sung about through the whole song is his personal doubt.
The song will carry on as a narrative following the main character and his journey, highlighting different aspects of what he will get up to in the video. The doubt must be seen throughout the video so he must always be slightly nervy and be aware of his behave, being self conscience and acting with caution.
Finally the song ends with his relief as the ending is revealed this needs to be shown through he body language and facial expressions, to fit well with the lyrics being sung in the video.

Lyrics- Delphic Doubt

Wanting meaning, wanting more than the same things
Wanting everything, just to start at the ending
I found another face to show
Just because what you say is what will go

Doubt, in it all for me
I've hit the wall, all that's left for you is doubt
Better you than me, I've so far to fall
All that's left for you is doubt
In it all for me, I've hit the wall that's left for you is doubt
Better you than me, I've so far to fall, but I can't change now

Missing the life gone by that I have lost
I'm missing the better times that I had lost
When you're near me I get tired when you follow
When you speak what you say is what will go. will go
What you say is what will go

Doubt, in it all for me
I've hit the wall, all that's left for you is doubt
Better you than me, I've so far to fall
All that's left for you is doubt
In it all for me, I've hit the wall that's left for you is doubt
Better you than me, I've so far to fall, but I can't change now

Chorus repeat once more
