Teacher Feedback: On first cut

So after making a start on editing with the material we had we decided the get some teacher feedback on the shots and scene we had filmed and put together in final cut for the video. The initial part of the video the intro was said to be a good setting and the positioning of Jack was appropriate being his was the main character and the attention is always on him. However when the beginning of verse one it was mentioned that Jack was not strong enough at miming the lyrics properly to be convincing enough that it was actually him singing. We went over the imagery quite a few times and did see some faults to the miming and agreed with the point. because of this we have decided that it would be better if we took out the miming verses and concentrated on jack telling the narrative physically through his acting. This was the first change we will make at the filming shoot. The next criticism was that in verse one there was no clear start to the narrative after knowing what our plan was for the story it was highlights this wasn't following or explaining the narrative that was meant to be seen in the video. The actual plan was to show Jack in verse one was to be dragged to the bedroom, however there is not enough in our original footage to explain this, So we will be thinking of a new approach to help explain the narrative clearer.

The good points to the edited part of the video was the use of cameras angles the narrative that is trying to come through, which we need to work on to get the message across. We have decided to look at a new approach in telling the story with possibility of using real time footage and flash backs using different camera and after affects. We think that the this idea of flash backs will definitely go with the song structure and meaning and will hopefully help us the tell the narrative exactly the way we want to. it is difficult to create just the right look for the video but we feel but working on the filming again, and re-filming certain aspects of the story we can create a better video and a clearer narrative.

2nd Film shoot

For the second shoot we invited along Todd the little boy featured in the video to represent a younger jack the main character in the video. The idea of using both Todd and jack together to create one character will have to also be seen in the editing to create the look and the impression that he represents the younger jack. Initially we wanted to create the sense of voyeurism, however with developing the idea when when edit the pieces.

Using the characters in the same position stationary in shot for both jack and Todd will help us to create the idea that both boys are the same characters, Using a steady shot, then close ups of the boys both miming the lyrics will help us to create. The continuity between characters.

We also filmed some small scenes for the montage, the bits to film in a create the flashback type of look for the narrative. Although there will a linear narrative running through the video the small clips of flashback and montage will help us to create the idea that he is regretting his past actions that's why he is constantly thinking back, fitting in with the story.

Development of website

So for our digi-pak there was a few options as to what we could do, going along with our video, because of Sam's skills at creating and working on web pages and websites, we decided with his guidance and over view we would create a website rather than a magazine advert. The website my be fully functioning and has to have a variety of different animations and content about the release of Delphic album Acolyte.

The initial look for the website was simplistic however together we feel that this is too simplistic and would like to create a more professional and fitting website for Delphic. We looked at different websites to look at the conventions and all seem to have a quite a lot of content to keep the reader interested. The level of skill and actual technology on each of the website is high so we feel we need to try and create the same look, so for this Sam is going to look into creating a more sophisticated looked website based on our initial idea. With Sam's skills i think that the website will look exactly how we would want and will fit in appropriately to the theme we are trying to create. Later on we will place the video for doubt on the home page, once it is completed.

Plan for shoot 2

Wednesday 10th February
After reviewing our footage from 01/02/10 there were some scenes that were more acceptable than others, and we found ourselves with a lot of small gaps where we would fit in small random clips. Although we need to film some of the party scenes again, most people couldn't make it, so we compiled a list of short random things that will fill the gaps.
Including:
A homosexual kiss
Lights being switched on.
A spinning coin.
Rolling of dice.
Jack Clegg looking into a mirror.
Washing hands.
Shower scene.
Crying.
Biting of lip.
Rolling/ Smoking a cigarette.
Drinking Milk.
Scrunching hair.
Key in a door.
Biting an apple.
Close up of eye opening.
All these may seem random, but in context they have hidden meanings and relevance to the narrative of our video. Furthermore we will be filming the scenes of the young boy(Todd Cook), which will be used for the choruses. We will have to plan a date in the half term or soon after for the remainder of the party scenes, as well as the stuff we have to re-shoot.

The process of Editing

We as a group are using final cut to edit, from our initial footage we got quite a good range of shots the initial into to the song we created a part scene with a difference, we used the strobe to firstly create the look of a party, but also the movement of the people around the main character jack is some what like the idea these people and ideas are all going around in his head. The fact that jack is static throughout the shot shows he isn't involved in the happens of the party. This initial into creates the idea that Jack is the main character instantly and by framing him in the this way with his static and movement all around his straight away diverts the attention to him which is what we wanted to achieve.

The strobe creates attention to what is happening on the screen straight away. We then later carry on with the narrative unwrapping the story behind the beginning on the scene with the party. We carry on the create the setting of the party and exactly what has happened to jack to make him behave the way he is in the scene. The use of the narrative helps to explains what he is doubting throughout. We have chosen to not have Jack miming the verses only the chorus. This we feel will help jack to explain the narrative physically , through his acting. Jack will be able to create the narrative on screen through the actions he is doing from scene to scene.

By the use of technology final cut has enabled us to create the look that fits well with the song doubt. We were able to use cross dissolve and changing of lightening, and other tools to create exactly the right look. I feel that final cut is the perfect program in creating the right music video and is straight forward and easy to manage when editing.

The editing throughout will show continuity because without this the video will not gel narratively. the pace of editing will fit in the with pace of the song, however will have to represent the look we are also wanting to create for doubt as the pace in some parts of the song is extremely fast, and this would not be appropriate for the video and the target audience. The ideas that we have for the video will be shown through the editing, Jordan will take role as the main person to use final cut with all of our input, but we will all take it all in turns to use final cut.

Possible album artwork

This idea with the two main characters facing one another shows the relationship that is shown throughout our video the idea to use the characters is still preliminary idea. Because the character of the lover always remains anonymous until the end i think the idea of revealing the character on the album artwork maybe needs to be rethought.

Images of working on the project.

Catching the moment- Here are some stills of the boys working on editing and the digipak.

Website inspiration

So in order to create a suitable website for the band, we first had a look at the conventions and house style of different websites to look at the pattern and styles that each follow. Obviously each website is original and suits the style of the band and the music genre they fit into. The website above is for the original Delphic, with their hit doubt which our group have created the music video for.

The website is basic and has a dominate white colour throughout it uses a innovative style with the font and graphics used throughout this is really common with the websites for indie electro bands, they try to create the most different and 'individual' look to both the band and of course everything associated with it, including the website. Involved in the website as you can see with

Collectively as a group we looked a variety of websites for different bands to get some ideas and inspiration for creating one for Delphic. We obviously looked at the current Delphic site which you can see above, the colours are simplistic and there is a clear theme for each bands site unique to each group. This has helped us to realise that the website m
ust follow the basic themes we want to create, and also must be accessible.

The variation of the use of colour in this website for the indie band Editors clearly shows a difference in the house styling of the band. The main colour is black making the white colour text and the main strip of colour at the top to stand out. The main feature which you can see in the screen shot is the diary entries and live dates. This is vital for fans to keep updated with the schedule of the band, and their appearances and live performances. For Delphic in comparison to Editors it is even more important a calender is a main feature of the website as a new band they need their fans to show as much support at their shows and allow their following to grow.
The interactivity of the website is a major part to get the fan and followers involved with social networking sites such a twitter and facebook, it is vital the band post and twitter their activities getting the maximum followers boosting record sales. This is a main purpose of the website to enhance the band persona and the interactivity level allows the public to be part of the band growth as a whole thus increasing record sales.

Again the prodigy website the colours, fonts images and styling all tie in the imagery the band follow and the genre their music falls into. In this screen shot you can see a video is featured, this player allows the the viewer to watch the video interactively of the new prodigy video. This is a clever concept and keeps the viewer interested and they are almost guaranteed to watch the video, so straight away they are interested. This a brilliant way of grabbing the audience and this will definitely be a feature if it possible on the Delphic website.

Digi pak moodboard

This is some current album art work for bands which can be easily related to delphic sound. The cover will have to edgy and noticable, and quite simple, but must remain unqiue.

Organising Film shoot

In the video we are basing the story around a party scene which obviously we need to create, due to needing people for the shoot, we decided to create a facebook group to invite them all to the filming shoot describing what their roles involve and what type of clothing they need to wear. This will able us to work well with our friends creating the best possible mise- en- scene for our video. By informing all our friends their roles we will able to commence on filming straight away.

locations

This was our initial idea for location for the video for doubt. This is our friends Josh's house we took some shots of the main room where the filming would take place. We will look at other locations, to see if there is is a more suited place for our video.

The main room did seen to be big enough for the party scene and to fit all the equipment in for filming, however throughout the group there was a feeling that the location wasn't right for our type of video we wanted to create,

By looking at locations we now have a better idea of the criteria we would like to follow for the perfect video. The main character jack Clegg, his house is the next location we will be checking out, next time will will shoot some film of the location to see how it would look on camera. I believe that once we find the location we will be sure it will be right for the location almost instantly.

Cast

This is our main character, Jack Clegg. We have chosen him to portray our main character as we feel he has the popular look suited to the song and our target audience. The song is cutting edge using a range of different types of music, this edgy look is shown through both the style and fashion of jack himself. jack will be used as the character who sings the lyrics in the main parts for the video, we feel that with him putting emphasis on the lyrics it will help to build the imagery seen throughout the video. Jack throughout the video is battling with his sexuality and this is shown through he relationship with our other male character, during the main part of the video the identity of Jack's love interest is keep mysterious, however at the end it is revealed as jack a other homosexual character in the video.

This is our other character jack Osman. his role within our video is to remain the mysterious love interest of our other main character Jack. His homosexuality is not revealed to the end as the main character has to remain to appear straight. Again Jack Osman has a edgy look fitting well with the style of music, and helps to portray the target audience that we are aiming, both age and style wise.
